In a remarkable demonstration of innovation and responsiveness, the SULO team has successfully developed a cutting-edge solution to meet the needs of Brisbane City Council (BCC), the nation’s largest local government. BCC approached SULO with a request to provide three trial ‘Smart Bins’ for use in Queen Street Mall, specifically designed to collect ‘Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) containers’ that carry a 10-cent deposit.
SULO engineered a unique hood design that seamlessly attaches to BCC’s existing bin infrastructure, this innovative design allows for the retrofitting of ‘smart units’ to their current assets, ensuring a cost-effective and efficient upgrade and demonstrating the SULO ability to quickly and effectively innovate sustainable solutions.
The Smart Bin initiative is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and smart city solutions. By integrating advanced technology with existing infrastructure, we are not only enhancing waste collection efficiency but also promoting environmental responsibility. The trial in Queen Street Mall is just the beginning, and we are excited about the potential for broader implementation across the country.
The new bins are located:
- Outside the Wintergarden entrance
- Outside the UpTown entrance
- Outside EzyMart on Albert Street
We look forward to continuing our partnership with BCC and other local governments to drive sustainable practices and smart city innovations.
Matthew Newman, General Manager Pact Reuse, said “SULO MGB were presented with the challenge of developing a robust, fully stand-alone smart bin which would seamlessly integrate within the existing waste-and-resource-recovery-assets of Brisbane City, and we have developed a product we are proud to put our names to.”
“These smart-bins not only encourage higher rates of container recycling (some of this recovered plastic makes its way into a new SULO wheely bins), but the donation proceeds aim to positively impact the wider Brisbane community, Mr Newman said”
